It is very lovely! Doilies have gone the way of the dinosaur here...more’s the pity. They are practical as well as pretty. (Well I don’t care, I still have many that my mother made.)
I still have a lot of doilies too. Used to crotchet them when I was young. A cute poem, for a really chic doiley - I don't think I have ever seen a pink and black one, and it looks Good!
I used to love watching my grandmother and mom crocheting. They made many beautiful doilies. I still have some of them that Grandma gave me as presents. Often my little sis and I were delegated to help turn the skeins of yarn into balls. Less possibility of getting the threads tangled up when crocheting. Do you do that too?
A very pretty doily, Amalia. Thanks for sharing it with us! Brenda xox
This is such a pretty doily--its delicate but the black gives it a modern edge.
My mother loved her doilies, too. She may have gotten them from her mother. She also used dresser scarves, simple cotton with a little detail. I remember her washing and ironing them. Good memories.
you are such PRECIOUS soul dearest amalia!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
your creations display the sublinty and sensitivity of your sweet beautiful heart that is what i feel when i see your handmade pretty stuff and incredibly wonderful poetry which goes alnog amazingly :)
I love the vintage vibe that pink and black create! Pretty doily :) I know I've told you this before, but when I see some pretty pink piece I hear my dear ol' dad saying "pink, pink to make the boys wink" ... so there you have it again ;) ... wink!
A passion for doilies is a good way to put it. I used to make doilies, large ones with pineapple design and some with ruffles, I loved them so. Your pink and black doily is a beauty, I enjoyed seeing it. Needlework like this is priceless!
Oh, I love your doily, Amalia, and it reminds me of the crocheted doily my grandmother made. Pink is such a pretty and calm color, and I'm really into it lately, as I have a grandbaby and another one on the way. The black adds a little something to your Pink doily. Your posts make my heart happy, Amalia. : )
That poem gives you the same kind of warm hearted feeling as that particular shade of pink. Is it strange that actually makes sense? You have a talent I much envy! Slick work!
Very very pretty crochet, Amalia! Love the very bright colour too! I have made a top using chain stitch loops, so I know this can be quite time consuming. Love the colours too Hugs, Barbara xx
Hi Amalia, I love the modern colours in your doily. So pretty! My bedroom is decorated in pink and black (and white too). Your doily is so even - beautiful! What pattern did you use? Jodie x
It's beautiful! Those colors were popular when I was a girl in the 1950's. It looks like you've strung black seed beads and crocheted them into the center and edge of your doily. I'm a really old lady who has always loved crocheting doilies from vintage patterns, and I love adding beads wherever they can be worked in.
I discovered something about doilies in my old age! Instead of ironing (I grew up seeing my mother starch, dampen, and iron all her doilies and dresser scarves, and so I did the same thing when I got married. Then later on I skipped the starch and steam ironed everything - sometimes things had to be dampened anyway.) Skip all that! Spread your doilies while still damp from washing (roll them in a towel to get excess water out) on a clean counter top or waterproof table top, easing it into shape with your fingers until it's lying there perfectly just as though it had been ironed, and then let it dry that way. So much easier.
You have the sweetest blog. I wish you continued success with it, and with life in general!!! God Bless You!

Yes, I did. Thanks, Julie
That is so amazing - love your use of words!
That's really pretty. I've crocheted a few things with the threads but found those little stitches were too small for me.
That poem is adorable
I love your doily, I've made a few in the past to use up scraps of yarn - I found it quite meditative going round and round. Lovely poem. xx
