Five reasons I'm giving Five Stars to:
The Jane Austen Project
by Kathleen A. Flynn
1. The plot - Rachel and a colleague are sent back
in time from an unspecified future to 1815 England
with a mission to track down Jane Austen.
Why? Of course I'm not telling.
2. The protagonist - Rachel is in her mid 30s,
a medical doctor with a passion for all things Jane.
She is equally tough and fragile, smart, capable,
and very endearing.
3. This is a light read but the book does make you think
about the long way women have come since
the regency. Personally, I've always been concerned
with questions of hygiene when contemplating
time travel and the book does touch on that as well,
indoor/outdoor plumbing included.
4. The book reminded me a little of another time travel
favorite - To Say Nothing of the Dog by Connie Willis.
5. If you've never dreamed of going back in time
to meet Jane Austen... really, why not?

Sounds a pretty interesting book. Enjoy your day Diane
Os bordados são lindos, parabéns!
E lavanda tem um perfume maravilhoso....
Sounds great! I do not dream of time travel but I love to read this type of story. The hygiene part is always in the back of my mind too. :)
Well thank you for the excellent suggestions!
I have a couple of time travel books and the concept always appeals to me. Of course, living here in Canada, I often think of being transported back to pioneer days. We sometimes come across old rock foundations of their homes deep in the woods. Tracking down Jane Austen would be so interesting. Adding this book to my list ;)

The lavender bags are a delight, simply stunning.
It's years since I have read a Jane Austen novel, perhaps I should re read one or two. Don't know if I'd like to travel back in time though as I like my creature comforts too much!
Your embroidery of the rose took me back to my school days when we used the same fabric to embroider little table mats or bags!
Have a brilliant weekend :)
The book sounds very good! I love time travel stories. Such pretty sachets!
As a lover of Austen I must find that book! Love the two sachets - the embroidery is so sweet and neat!
I love Jane Austin and this sounds a great book. Beautiful lavender sachets and pretty stitching. Kisses, my friend.
And something else: If you want to participate in my birthday candy, please leave a comment on the post "Birthday candy". Kisses, my friend.
The book sounds very interesting !! I love your lavender sachets!
Greetings
Thanks for the book review. Your lavender sachets are so sweet!
Sweet little sachets, Amalia. Sweet embroideries. I must go in search of this book, it sounds like a goody. Sitting in the parlour chatting to Jane Austen would be fascinating, wouldn't it.
These look so beautiful Amalia and love Jane Austen of course!!
Love yours sachets!!
Definitely for Austen lovers!
Time travel has always intrigued me. I, too, wonder about the hygiene aspect of things, and if anyone would understand the English I speak today. Lovely sachets.
Hello,
I will go along to meet Jane.
The sachets are lovely.
Carla
I think my fondness of indoor plumbing may have prevented me from wishing to travel back in time, but this does sound like a fun read!
Seems very interesting!!!!
Thank you for comment dear, keep in touch.

Very cute! ♥️♥️♥️
Thank you for the great review.
I have been often thinking it would be fascinating to travel back in earlier geological eras, or to meet ancient Romans or J.S.Bach, but surely there would be many practical problems.
Thank you also for your especially lovely comment on my post about trees. xx
Thank you for such a comprehensive review. I hadn't heard of this book before but now I'm intrigued! 😊
The book sounds good, I will suggest it to my book club. I like the idea of time travel, to be able to observe famous people to see what they are really like :-) x
Meant to say "what they were really like" :-)
I think this could be a great book for a book club because there are so many talking points, both literary and historical. Wish I could join you.
In another time travel book I read they temporarily took away the travelers' ability to smell. I think that is a must :-)
Sitting in the parlour chatting to you wouldn't be bad either :-)
it sounds like good book - have to read it. Thank you for review. Your sachets are lovely and so delicate - like made by one of Jane Austin's grils :)
Thanks for the review! I will add it to my Books to Read board on Pinterest.
Your sachets are really pretty! Thanks for the book review. I've always been an Austen fan so this sounds fun!

Wonderful to contemplate these things....the book sounds interesting. Lovely little sachets - something so important in those distant times and delightful for today. I hope you have a lovely last weekend of October, Amalia! Hugs xo Karen
Hummmm...never thought about plumbing. Something to think about now that you mentioned it. ;)
Sounds like a good read! Something I hope to do more of during the snowy months :)
Lovely post and a a lovely book!
Warm hug from Titti
Amalia, I always enjoy reading your book reviews and this one definitely sounds like a book I'll enjoy. Thanks for sharing!!
I love anything Jane Austin so I will check it out. Beatuiful stitching.
Love the little lavender bags. And thank you for the book tips, I like the sound of To Say Nothing of the Dog. Anna x
Beautiful sachets! Thanks for the review!
I’ve always thought the idea of time travelling appealing, but I don’t think I’d actually want to go there. Quite scarey when you start thinking!
Like you say, what about the hygiene? Plus, a woman’s life was not exactly enviable way back.
No, I think I’ll stay where I am! Tee, hee! But maybe I’ll read the book!
Love those sachets!

that sounds like an interesting read, I watched a movie on the same lines as that book, I love Jane Austen books, I am very interested in that time era. Love your sachet's, such lovely stitching!
I love the idea of going back and visiting periods in history, though not sure I’d like to actually live with them xx
Ha! That's so funny, I was recently watching a show that involved time travel and one of the characters said something like, "Um, no. I'm not keen on a 40 year lifespan, dysentery and outdoor plumbing." Sounds like a fun book though, kind of what reading is all about, the time travel without the ick! ;)
Great work and book!
kisses:)
xxBasia
Oh this sounds like my type of book. Great needlework!
I love Jane Austen and I always feel transported in time when I read her or watch the movies. Sounds like the perfect book for fall/winter reading! Thank you for the review. Your sachets remind me that I should be stitching and I need a lavender sachet in my unmentionables drawer.
~Jody
Dear Amalia,
After showing us sweet sachets
And an interesting review
Praise to you is due! xx :)
I must tell my daughter who is a great Jane Austen fan!
I love these lavender sachets :) A clever friend of mine made one for me years ago...
Hello, The book sounds interesting wonderful for the Jane Austen fans. I like your cute sachet bags. Happy Monday, enjoy your new week!
I'd love to go back in time to meet Jane Austen! Thanks for the review, Amalia :)
It sounds like a very interesting book to read and go traveling back in time, but like you, I have many concerns about the difficult life women lived many years ago before indoor plumbing and especially no hot running water. A woman's life was very hard back then, we are very blessed now!! Those are beautiful lavender sachets that you made!
Pretty rose sachets, Amalia:) Many thanks for sharing them with All Seasons! You have the perfect name for embroidery:)The past was quaint and the dresses to die for, but for women I'm glad I live in the present time, even if it is without the romance of the past. Have an amazing week:)
Dear Amalia,
The lavender bags are so very sweet.
Have a happy week
hugs
Carolyn
Great review of the book, Amalia:)
Wish I could smell those lavender sachets. I meant to order some lavender from ebay and forgot about it. Hopefully your sweet sachets will remind me to order some. I've never been able to get 'into' Jane Austen...don't know why. Miss B. Potter for me hahah. Just now I am enjoying the audio book 'Cloudy Jewel' by Grace L. HIll. LibriVox is a free online library read by many volunteers. Ever used it? Its so nice! I listened to a version of 'Pollyanna' read by Phil Chh?? and it was top rate...
Never thought about hygiene in relation to time travel! Yeah, that would be hard. I’m a Jane fan ...really who could not be? But have never wanted to learn to love sci fi or time travel....this book might tempt me to a new genre!
Sounds intriguing... and those lavender sachets are of course delightful!
You are such a beacon of light in this world, Amalia. Thank you.
I'm with you on the hygiene concerns. ;) Sounds very interesting. I'm adding it to my list! blessings and hugs ~ tanna

I am exploring Alaska, with half the story told by the pregnant wife, as she waits ...
The bright edge of the world - Eowyn Ivey
As much as I enjoy Jane Austen's novels, I wouldn't be able to live in the Regency era. Thanks for the book review. Now I'm off to see if my local library carries The Jane Austen Project.
Amalia, I've been wanting to read a good book lately, and one that goes back in history is my cup of tea. : )
~Sheri

Beautiful embroidery, Amalia!
We should go as a group. Not sure I would dare going one-on-one with her.
That is a compliment indeed :-)
I'd be worried the whole time that I'd make some mistake and change history completely or miss the rendezvous and get stuck there. Too much pressure.
It is ironic that they lived their shorter lives in a leisurely kind of way while we, who expect to live twice as long, just rush about from morning till night.
Dear Gracie,
Thank you for the praise
and lovely turn of phrase,
I always like your rhymes
and read them many times.
I must remember that the next time the washing machine is acting up :-)
I've never heard of LibriVox, I'll check it out, thanks for the suggestion. I like Miss B. as well :-)
They have tea every five minutes. You'll never forget to put the kettle on.
This is kind beyond words. Obrigado.

Thank you for your great review, Amaria!
I had read 'Pride & Prejudice', but unfortunately I couldn't enjoy...
I probably think it is cause of Japanese translation isn't good.
I love Austin's lifestyle very much!!
So I would love to read that book in English!
