The Doomed Duet

Primrose and Orangette
are singing a duet
at the village fete.

Orangette clears her throat
hits a high note
and startles a goat.

The goat bleats a cry
and runs into the guy
who sells meat pie.

The guy really tries
to save his meat pies
but hope soon dies.

All around the fair
people stop and stare
at the guilty singing pair.

Then the pie stand
topples to the ground.
And our duo is banned.

Featured: my hippie bus.
One day I will drive it to Tahiti
with the wind blowing in my hair.

Oh what cute little people you have created, and I love the poem. What fun in a Hippie Bus! There are a lot of those around Australia...

Eeeek! How awful! All those pies lost!!!! Poor man! Poor Orangette ..... such embarrassment!
Lovely to see Orangette again! Loved the verse too!
Tee hee, I used to have a converted VW when I was very young ..... I wish I'd kept it! It was funny driving it here in England because it was a Left Hand Drive ..... and of course our cars here are RH drive ..... it did cause a few stares!
My camper van had been driven in South Africa before I bought it and had a "T" bar on the front .... not sure if this was for protection from wild animals or what?????

Lucky you, Barbara. It is my dream car! I'm sure I'll find one some day, it will be Tiffany blue and of an adventurous nature.

Your tale and friends made me giggle...but that van...dreamy! And in red? Are you kidding me? Swing by the states and grab me on the way. Pretty please! :)

They are so adorable! I loved the story too - if only the goat hadn't been startled. :-)

Your rhymes not only make me grin, they make me laugh aloud. What a wonderful hippie van! And Primrose and Orangette could not be more adorable.

I so love your hippie bus!!
What a mischievous double act!!! Loved the poem.
Have a wonderful week :)

Primrose and Orangette look a little baffled by what mayhem their duet has caused at the fair. hehe They are darling little bunnies and I love the little details of the buntings and retro flowers on the bus. My parents owned a yellow and white VW bus just like it when we were growing up. I guess they still had a little hippy left in them. I hope someday you make that trip with the wind blowing in your hair!

magnoliasntea said...

Love, love this sweet story in prose. The subjects are adorable, and I hope you get to make that trip with the wind blowing your hair.

There's a gentleman in Pulaski, Virginia who bought hundreds of those vans, and when someone has an order for one, he builds what they want with parts from the others. I'll take a pic of his lot for you the next time we are there, Amalia. Dreaming is fun, eh?

Polly said...

Poor Orangette and Primrose, they didn't mean to cause such mayhem. Can I join your road trip please? I will bring cake :-)

Primrose and Orangette are darling cloth dolls, Amalia. And your poems always make this girl smile. I heard one time that orange was the happiest color, and I think that's true.

Enjoy these wonderful March days, my sweet friend.

In my humble opinion, the goat should have been the one to be banned from the fair. Silly thing! Oh, well, I'm sure Primrose and Orangette will bounce back with their singing career. They look quite resilient, and awfully cute. A drive to Tahiti with the wind blowing through my hair sounds delightful. I'll pack my bags immediately! Hugs, Nancy

Oh how I adore these sweet wee felty friends!

Also, thank you so very much for your warm and heartfelt comments.

I wanted to let you know that I am nearing the end of my college experience and am currently doing a 7-week internship at a museum as a requirement for graduation. It is an interesting experience to be sure.

I must admit that I am struggling to try and manage my time and make sure my family's needs are met. Sadly, this leaves little time left for visiting my favorite people in the world and their fabulous blogs. I hope you'll have patience with me. Thankfully, this time won't last forever and I will soon, once again, be able to see all the wonderful things you are doing.

May glorious weather and lovely flowers put a spring in your step,
Laura

My son has a similar VW Type 2, but the top doesn't pop up (and I think it's the bigger scale). My neighbour across the street is fixing up TWO full-sized Type 2 campers! Every so often we hear him rattling down the road revving that distinctive sounding VW engine. I hope Primrose and Orangette aren't banished for the entire fete :(
