The Book Club

Ollie and Gus
were sitting in the pub,
talking about starting
their own book club.

Ollie had milk,
Gus only water,
and it was he who suggested
reading Beatrix Potter.

Ollie said they should
order some grub,
and invite Peter Rabbit
to join their club.

Gus wrote the letter
and sent it with pride,
but oh, the sorrow,
Peter never replied.

They might still be waiting,
it’s a shame indeed,
that nobody told them -
rabbits can't read.

Oh, poor Gus and Ollie! I love the little softies and the poem, and I adore the old editions of Beatrix Potter. We visited her house in the Lake District a few years ago and some of the illustrations are based on her home and garden. xx

Gus and Ollie are so cute! I was brought up on Beatrix Potter stories and remember my Granny reading them to me. My favourite was Mrs Tiggywinkle but I quite liked the naughty ones too, like Peter Rabbit and Squirrel Nutkin!
Best wishes
Ellie

Such a sweet poem story with your two friends. That Peter Rabbit is such a rascal that I wonder if he ever went to school long enough to learn how to read!

Hello :)
Ollie and Gus are so cute, and your poem is delightful. I am a great fan of Beatrix Potter, and read many of her books as a child. The Lake District is a better place for her having lived there.
All the best

Oh, that is so dear. I love Beatrix Potter. Her drawings were spot on. The first time I saw an English garden, I knew how perfectly she had drawn the flowers. I had studied them so much in her books as a child, I recognized them! We have her to thank for the Lake District preservation, I think. What a marvelous woman.
