2. The protagonist - Alfie is a Cary Grant
kind of protagonist - intelligent and
elegant with a keen appreciation of fun.
3. The literary connection - "anyone can be good in
the country, there are no temptations there" -
we are in Oscar Wilde country with a bit of
Miss Marple thrown in.

4. The Atmosphere - these books are so
light they may very well float away
if you don't hold them tightly.

These are going to the top of my order list, Amalia! The intelligent and elegant protagonist reminds me of Lord Peter of Dorothy Sayers' mysteries. Your #3 tickles me. Your felt needlework, that face! How did you--or your niece--know to put that lopsided point on the chin? Brilliant! All I had to do was cover the point with my finger and it became just a face--was this an accident, or pure genius?

I just listened as audiobook Agatha Christie's The Mysterious Affair at Styles. It was her debut in 1920 - so this book celebrates its 100th anniversary. Hercule Poirot & captain Hastings were already ready characters. Happy weekend Amalia.

That was a great book review! I’m definitely in the mood for that kind of reading right now. With the heat and the state of the world, a little happy escapism is just the ticket. .
