Local Hero, Bill Forsyth's 1983 movie,
is a great favorite of mine,
not least because of Mark Knopfler's soundtrack
(you can play it at the bottom of the post).
(you can play it at the bottom of the post).
During our recent Scottish vacation we visited Pennan,
one of the main locations for the film.
Pennan is a tiny village with a small harbor,
a single row of homes and - one red telephone box.
On a cool and windy day it was quiet and quirky
and I loved it.

Dear Amalia,
Your photos of Scotland are beautiful and must have been wonderful spending your vacation there. I am a big fan of Mark Knophler and was lucky enough to meet him when we were staying at the same hotel as the band on their tour down under.
Happy week
Hugs
Carolyn
Lovely photos! My favorite is the second one. The green landscape is just stunning.
Lovely landscapes!! You must be very exciting. Those huge planter containers are too gorgeous. Are they really that big or is it camera work? Whatever they are mindblowing.
Lovely pictures! I don't remember watching that film, but now you've sparkled an interest so I am probably going to find it. Searched about it and got interested in the plot :)
Gorgeous photos! I love the rocky beach. I loved our visit to Edinburgh this spring and I would love to go back and explore more of Scotland.
Wonderful photos. I love the look of the village with the row of houses and it's red telephone box.

My family is from Scotland I'm first generation American :-) What I am always struck by is how many shades of green there is in Scotland. Everything is so lush and thick and thriving... and here we are in California with a drought and everything is the color of wheat. lol Fabulous photos :-)

Oh we are thinking Scotland next year. Looks lovely! Anna x
Oh we are thinking Scotland next year. Looks lovely! Anna x
beautiful! I enjoyed the story they told!
I love Scotland and Mark K. music too!
Oh the music here moves me soulfully... It's a lot like the music I listen to by many artist for movie sound tracks like Ondine, and so many, it's a music I can work to creatively. The electric guitar in this is so progressive kept so moving, it makes me drift away to an imaginative place as your small sea town with this one row of homes, fishermen boats reading themselves for the catch of the day.
I love the cement seagul ? Maybe it's a pigeon? I have gotten into these artful pieces these days.
And the lobster cages piled here, as well as your staging of the knitted fish pot holders are so cute, I want to knit some I must find a pattern?
Again Amalia thank you for sharing apart of your home. A place only in my dreams.
I am now a follower of your Instagram.
But still prefer the beauty of a good story life here with you. I hope to see you following me at Instagram as well.
Xx
Dore
I always enjoy your travel posts, Amalia! Great to see Scotland through your lens. Going to follow you on Instagram right now!
Pennan looks beautiful! Seems you had nice weather too! Love, love, love your photos! Enjoy the rest of the summer.
Wonderful photos! I remember the film and the red phone box:)
I love the pics from Scotland. It is on my bucket list.
I also loved the soft dolls inspired from children's drawings in your last post.
These photos of Pennan are lovely. How did you manage not to get any people in them? Maybe that's a silly question - I don't suppose it's exactly bustling with shoppers and street performers. I loved Local Hero, too, although I can't remember much of it. But Burt Lancaster - that voice.
Thanks for your comment about my special swatting fan - made me laugh! It's not just for swatting, but it serves dual purpose. ;-)
Your photos make me feel that I can almost feel the salty wind from the sea. Love the music too, we are Dire Straits fans here, we saw them live quite a few years ago now and they were amazing.
Taí um local que tenho muita vontade de conhecer, juntamente com a Irlanda e a Itália.
Belíssimas fotos.
Abraços e feliz final de semana.
Wonderful pictures of "HOME"!
Thank's for your lovely photos. And the music. I see a lot of blue:)
Hi Amalia,
This is such an interesting post - beautiful scenic photos. I did not know that Local Hero was filmed there but I do have the soundtrack and love that track "Going Home". He is a great composer and arranger.
I love the pattern you found in the fishing nets - to inspire a crochet stitch perhaps?
The carrot cake slices have such cute and dainty decoration compared with the rugged coastline. I wonder whether the bench and reel-table are joined by a rope so the table stays by the bench for convenience or so the bench doesn't blow away during the stormy season! Thanks for the travelogue.
Cheers,
Jodie
Amalia, your images of this picturesque, Scottish village are postcard perfect! Such colour, movement and charm! Thanks for sharing!
Have a wonderful week!
