My Week in Cannes - The Sequel

One of the pleasures of my visit to Cannes was the morning visit
to the best farmers' market I've ever seen.

This is how it's done:
You begin in the coffee shop opposite the east entrance.
You have your morning coffee and croissant and a little conversation.
Then you take a leisurely walk looking at all the market stalls,
fantasizing what you would buy and cook if you lived there.
You come out in the west entrance and sit the cafe there,
having another small coffee and resting from all this activity.
And then you begin your day.

Featured in the bottom photo: my plate of roasted vegetables
with rice-stuffed cabbage and grape leaves and Taztiki

That's funny how you see this kind of market and our way of living ... I love the pic with cheeses ... and this man with the beret .... have a lovely sunday !

Lovely pictures Amalia! We have some fantastic green markets here and I love going through the stalls picking my fruits and vegetables.
Your plate looks delicious - I think that is a vine leaf roll (the stuffed one) - it is a specialty in my country and for the meat lovers, they are stuffed, that is to say rolled with minced meat mixed with rice. Mouth-watering indeed :)

A perfect way to begin the day, Amalia! I remember reading James Beard say that the first thing he did when visiting a new city was go to its Farmer's Market. Oh, the beautiful colors in your pictures to feast your eyes on! I wish our market sold radishes as pretty as that, then I could understand why the French eat them in so many ways and even simply with butter and salt. And that purple garlic that's so hard to find here.

Were they cooking up samples at the table I saw in one of the pictures? I bet if they were it wasn't processed food. Your plate looks delicious!

Dear Amalia
There's an amazing array of fruit and vegetables at the market - with beautiful colours. It does look a great place to do some shopping.
Best wishes

Sounds like my ideal way of observing the market - start and finish in the cafe. We quite often head to town for an early morning coffee and croissant to watch the market come to life. Superb photos

What a wonderful day at the farmer's market, Amalia. I love to browse through markets and see all the fruits and veggies. I bet you bought a few goodies for yourself. Those tomatoes look amazing. We just saw the first ripe tomato in my husband's garden, but it was only a cherry tomato and very small. The café sounds charming. It would be nice to sit there and enjoy a cup of coffee.

handmade by amalia said...

I'm sure I have only a superficial view of life in France but every time I've been I've felt that you have a better understanding of how to live.

handmade by amalia said...

We make a lot of stuffed vegetables, red pepper are my favorite, and they are stuffed with meat and rice. But vine leaves I've never tasted with meat, should give it a try.

handmade by amalia said...

We don't have these heirloom tomatoes at all around here and the French have them in a variety of colors. Is that justice? You can tell they are delicious :-)

handmade by amalia said...

Absolutely!

handmade by amalia said...

And I didn't even put up the photos of the flower stalls! Of the fish stalls I didn't take any photos :-)

handmade by amalia said...

If they were offering samples I completely missed them :-)

handmade by amalia said...

It did smell nice and especially clean, it was all spotless.

handmade by amalia said...

Thank you, Caz. A gentle start to the day is an important thing :-)

handmade by amalia said...

Thanks :-) It's nice to have company for a leisurely tour.

handmade by amalia said...

Bread and cheese - a match made in heave. Big sigh.

handmade by amalia said...

OK. Now I'm hungry. Again. :-)

handmade by amalia said...

You have yourself a deal, Debby Ray!

handmade by amalia said...

Well, we are neighbors. And I adore Greek food. :-)

handmade by amalia said...

Tzatziki is a dip made of strained yogurt or a yogurt based cheese that we call Labneh. I mix mine with cucumbers, garlic, salt, olive oil and dill.

handmade by amalia said...

I can testify that they were sweet :-)

handmade by amalia said...

Yes, presentation counts for a lot but they have great produce to work with. Much better than ours.

handmade by amalia said...

Isn't it sweet that they shaped the sign like a little chicken?

handmade by amalia said...

Well, thank you for being a reader :-) Half the fun of a good trip is sharing the photos.

handmade by amalia said...

A perfect meal, I'm joining you.

handmade by amalia said...

Thank you Marcia. And thanks for visiting me.

handmade by amalia said...

I did. And took a couple of those jam jars home with me.

handmade by amalia said...

I usually dream of chocolate, but a salad is also good :-)

handmade by amalia said...

Thanks, Caroline,

handmade by amalia said...

It was :-)

handmade by amalia said...

Exactly, i's a natural art and a nice display makes all the difference.

handmade by amalia said...

It is! And they have a lot to work with because the produce is amazing.
