her sister Thumbeloo
both came down
with a horrid flue.
They had to spend
the day in bed -
tea was drunk,
stories were read.
The very next day
Thumbelina tried
to get up from bed
and go outside.
Thumbeloo worried:
“Sister, be wise,
don’t go out alone,
remember your size!”
A cricket for us
is as big as a bear,
when you’re a thumb,
it’s a jungle out there!”
