In the winter garden
a little pink rose
was dusted by snow
shivering, almost froze.
The garden was peaceful,
a deepening gloom,
this was the wrong season
for a flower to bloom.
The rose was restless,
as the snow grew deep -
"I'm not at all tired,
I don't want to sleep.
Why is it so quiet?
Where is everyone?
If they all stayed up
we could still have some fun."
The wise tree awoke
and looked at the moon -
"Go to sleep little rose,
spring will come very soon."

A lovely cross stitch and a wonderful poem. We've had roses blooming in December before now, they're hardy little things. Enjoy the weekend. xx

ReplyDeleteI have always wanted to try that style of stitching on crochet. Inspired. My pink rose is blooming and it is indeed time for it to go to sleep - lovely words. Jo x
ReplyDeleteVery pretty! I've made some crochet with cross-stitch in the past that I turned into small decorative pillows. :)
ReplyDeleteThat is really pretty. I like the cross stitch combined with the crochet.
ReplyDeleteSuch a gentle and delicate project! The rose is beautiful! What are you going to use this for?

ReplyDeleteOh my you did a beautiful job with cross-stitching on the crocheted piece, my mom use to do this but I have never tried it.
ReplyDeletePoor rose, I didn't summer and fall to end either.
Dear Amalia,
ReplyDeleteThat's a very sweet poem that I should take outside and read to my roses. They insist on blooming even as their leaves yellow and fall off, and the rains drench them. Such a pretty piece of cross stitch. I hope you have a lovely week.
I love the idea of you reading poetry to the roses, Lorrie. I would try Robert Frost :-)
DeleteBeautiful poem and such delicate work!
ReplyDeleteSweet brave little flower ... the last rose of summer!
ReplyDeleteSuper delicate ...
ReplyDeleteI am catching up on blog reading this morning. I have no idea how I missed this treasure. I love roses and cross stitch. They are perfection on this piece of crochet. What a wonderful idea!

That's a sweet poem. I don't think of roses sleeping during the winter since they bloom throughout the year here in California. I feel bad that our roses may be working overtime.
ReplyDeleteThat is so beautifully worked.
ReplyDeleteI have a cotton pullover with knitted roses. But they are simply one green and one red.
Oh Amalia, what a stunning post! The words are ever so precious and the rose is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHugs to you!
A pretty cross-stitch for a pretty poem! We're barrelling towards winter so I sympathize towards the rose!
