It begins with needle and thread
that's how the magic is bred;
some fabric, a little stuffing,
and still it looks like nothing.
Now comes the fun part -
you begin working your art,
and as you sew your design
the magic begins to shine.
You stop for tea and cake,
and then go on with your make;
you work a little faster,
magic is a stern master.
With tea, conversation and fun
your softie is quickly done,
and you hope to return soon
for another crafternoon!

We are once again joining the Sew a Softie project
where my niece Dana (8) is a 'Kid Ambassador',
serious in her mission to spread the joy of sewing.
To that end we've hosted a crafternoon
where Dana showed how to make a heart softie.
We've made a garland out of the hearts
to show that you can make softie decorations
to cheer any party.
♡
And there was even a student hiding underneath the table...

What a lovely crafternoon! Dana seems excellent in her mission and quite happy about the gathering and the make!

DeleteWhat a fun time! I love the project...and the student under the table is a heartstealer!
ReplyDeleteCrafternoon. I like the sound of this. Looks like a fun time
ReplyDeleteThat particular student looks like he's waiting for cake!
ReplyDeleteI've not heard of this project but what a wonderful idea. This took me back to summers growing up when all of my cousins each got a week or two at a favorite aunt's house. The time always started off with a visit to craft stores where we would choose a project to work on while we were visiting. Several summers as a teenager we went to a friend of my aunt who was a master hook rug artist. I learned to design one and work it and took it home with me to finish. I loved that better than any other craft I learned. I wonder what happened to that black hook rug with blue musical notes on it?
Crafting always carries fond memories with it, I've noticed. My grandmother once told me that when she was a girl they would sew with their mother for two hours after school, without fail. She had three sisters and I've always pictured it as a scene from Little Women though all my grandmother wanted at the time was to escape outside and play :-)
DeleteSuch happiness!Wonderful crafternoon!You are great!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely afternoon! Everything looks wonderful, the banner (my favorite!), the tablecloth, the cakes and the smiles. Fabulous right down to that pup!
ReplyDeleteWell done, Dana! I love all the hearts - a wonderful way to share the love of sewing.

I should come to you for advice. My little nephew wants to craft as well (anything big sister can do he can do better...) and I find that I don't have as many ideas for him once you exclude anything soccer related :-)
DeleteHow fun that looks! I love the heart garland and the student under the table. As always the poem is precious!
ReplyDeleteThat is absolutely wonderful that Dana is spreading her joy of sewing at such a young age!
ReplyDeleteI would love to attend a crafternoon!
I wish I could hold a crafternoon and beam you all you over. Technology is letting me down.

My girls love a crafternoon and we are due a few in a weeks time when the Summer holidays start. Jo x
ReplyDeleteYour summer holidays haven't started yet? We get two full months - the whole of July and August - and high school students get the last ten days of July as well because two months are not enough.
DeleteI had never heard the term 'crafternoon' and I love it!! What fun for all. And good for your niece for her good work at such a young age.

DeleteReally sweet and very impressive that an 8 year old is teaching the love of sewing. Wish I could join you for a crafternoon as I never, ever learned to sew properly. Not even buttons that continuously feel off uniforms while my boys were in school. I just made salt dough hearts with my 6 year old neighbor that are outside drying in the summer sun right now.
ReplyDeleteWe'll trade - sewing lessons for salt dough fun, and we'll bring cake.
DeleteVery nice pics! Thank for sharing! 👌👌👌
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun crafternoon, Amalia. Such a beautiful poem and stunning photos.

We have a "Dana" in our family, too. Dennis' oldest daughter is Dana. I love that name, and what a pretty girl your Dana is (ours is, too). :) It's so refreshing to see a young lady promoting sewing in this age of video games. Love it! Love the hearts, too! (Adorable under-the-table student.) Hugs.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of a "crafternoon." It's so fun to share projects with others! Those softie hearts are simple so everyone can participate, including the young and those with few sewing skills.
ReplyDeleteQue lindos momentos!!! Mágicos e especiais!!!
ReplyDeleteNada como reuniões para fazer o bem - alegram o coração.
Adorei o peludo prestando atenção em tudo!!!
Abraços esmagadores e feliz dia.

Nothing better than a craftafternoon! How wonderful that your niece is serious about showing others how fun it is to sew! I agree that crafting is a tough taskmaster, one must keep at it while the creativity is flowing! Such a fun afternoon for all, but especially the sweet pup under the table, what a cutie!
