A little snail
was feeling strange,
restless and bored
he needed some change.
He didn't at all
like the feel of gravel,
but still decided it was
time to travel.
He thought he'd go big
and travel abroad,
in short - he decided
to cross the road.
The countryside was deserted
night began to fall,
and the snail started crossing
at a leisurely stroll.
He enjoyed the quiet,
and the cool evening air,
the scent of wild flowers
that hung everywhere.
All was going well
when suddenly, from afar,
he was sure that he heard
the sound of a car.
He'd dawdled too long
now it was morning,
and traffic appeared
without any warning.
Hurrying to cross
dodging an early commuter,
he was almost run over
by a guy on a scooter.
The snail finally crossed
and collapsed without breath,
thinking he'd avoided
a sad and painful death:
"I carry my home with me
and it sure is good luck,
cause one thing's for certain -
I'm not crossing back!"
was feeling strange,
restless and bored
he needed some change.
He didn't at all
like the feel of gravel,
but still decided it was
time to travel.

Oh, that snail sure was a lucky one. I see squirrels sometimes run right in the middle of the road. People have to slow down for them. I always wonder why they scurry into heavy traffic. I love this colorful blanket that's wrapped around your little one. :)
ReplyDelete~Sheri
Handsome assistant indeed! And what a gorgeous afghan. Love your poetry...did Tomer like it, too?
ReplyDeleteWhat a funny and witty rhyme! And the blanket is very beautiful. I like its dark background. :-)

Slow snails and speeding scooters had me on the edge of my seat!! I'm so glad this ended well ... whew! The handsome assistant is the perfect accompaniment to that gorgeous blanket. He looks like a good sport to be covered in pretty flowers ;) Happy Weekend!
ReplyDeleteWendy
Love the bright colours of your beautiful crochet blanket. Glad that the snail made it safely across the road.
ReplyDeleteAdorable boy, lovely throw and I love your poem. Whew, glad it had a happy finish that made me smile.
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend……..
I like the black with the colors of your blanket. I have a new love for black. I am a lover of blues, but black has been calling me. ;-)
ReplyDeleteYour poem made me smile.
I will be on Spring Break next week, I will catch up with you soon.
xx oo
Carla
I am sure glad the Snail is safely on the other side of the road and is not crossing back! The blanket is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI have a sneaky feeling that he will soon cross back. Snails are notoriously forgetful.
DeleteThat is a spectacular afghan, and obviously loved by your young man. And a very cute poem, thank you.
ReplyDeleteAmalia, I was on the edge of my seat, as the snail was crossing the road. I'm so glad he made it over safely! Whew! Love the crocheted afghan!!
ReplyDeleteThat is a VERY smart snail! NO GOING BACK! Whew!!!! I was on the edge of my seat, Amalia!
ReplyDeleteLOVE your work.
This is the sweetest poem! It's a good thing that poor little snail had his home on his back... I think I'd be too tired to travel back as well. The blanket is so pretty with a burst of color and I can see that your nephew is really enjoying cuddling under it!T hank you Amalia for joining us with your Sweet Inspiration!
ReplyDeleteThank goodness Mr.Snail made it safely to the other side of the road! As always I am entertained by your clever little ditties, Amalia.
ReplyDeleteNow onto the afghan........gorgeous!!! I just finished all the circles for my afghan and now I've got to pick a background color. The black you chose really brings all the colors to life!! It also is the perfect color for your little nephew to wear. :o)
Thanks so much for sharing and have a wonderful weekend!
Sometimes I choose black as a background, thinking that it is the best because it is so dramatic and makes the other colors brighter. Sometimes I choose a creamy white, because the overall look is more delicate. I like them both.
DeleteI look forward to seeing yours. Your first afghan! I feel like an old hand at this :-)
Such goodness, sweetness, and love here-of course the afghan is a masterpiece!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend,
xo
Jemma
Close call with the scooter!! Mr. Snail is wise to stay put and lucky to have his home with him. Many times I've traveled and wished I could take my own home along. I think that's why they invented RV's. teehee. Tomer is a handsome model. How fortunate you are to have him as your assistant, Amalia. Hugs, Nancy
ReplyDeleteYour poem is so sweet and cute. I could just picture that little snail trying to cross the road and avoiding being run over. :) Your crocheted blanket is beautiful. Have a wonderful weekend Amalia. xx Pam
ReplyDeleteYou shouldn't dawdle when you're on a mission, dear snail. Lesson learned, I hope.
DeleteYour blanket is just beautiful, love the colors and it looks like your nephew was enjoying it :) Cute poem, I was getting nervous there that he might not make it across :) I don't blame him I wouldn't try it again either... Have a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeleteI have a feeling he may yet cross back. Luckily, we soon forget bad experiences :-)
DeleteTomer is so adorable - love that big smile! What a pretty afghan to snuggle under too.
ReplyDeleteAmalia, your poem made me laugh out loud a few times. So funny and sweet!
I dearly love this poem, Amalia! So creative and the little boy is a cutie all wrapped in his sweet blanket. xo ♥

ReplyDeleteHugs,
Meredith
So many exquisite flowers on a black backdrop -- dramatic!
ReplyDeleteI was sure snail was going to be squished.
You do have a very handsome assistant! The blanket is gorgeous and looks similar to one my mother-in-law made many, many years ago. Love the poem - I was getting worried there in the end :)
ReplyDeleteGuauuula felicito por esa gran colcha a crochet ,, yo estoy tejiendo uno y sé que lleva mucho trabajo ,, lindo colorido
ReplyDeleteSo glad the snail survived, and that you let us see Tomer so handsomely model your beautiful blanket, Amalia! xx

ReplyDeleteHope you're having a lovely Sunday, I'm sending blessings on the begin of your new week ahead, dear friend,
with so much thankfulness
Dany
It's a beautiful blanket. I started a granny square blanket with black border sometime back but have yet to finish it. Little snail should find a lovely garden to wander in rather than venturing out into this big ol' scary world. :)
ReplyDeleteThat's a great idea for a sequel, Tammy. I'm sure a garden comes with its own perils :-)
DeleteBeautiful afghan. I had to laugh at your Passover madness comment-so true. Chag Sameach!

Lovely blanket, Amalia!! So colorful:)
ReplyDeleteJust wonderful! That made me smile... :)
ReplyDeleteWow! Nice! I like it!:)
ReplyDeleteHow absolutely charming!! (Model, Blanket AND POEM!) This reminded me in a zany way of the wonderful old Bottle-Cap trivets my Mom and Mammaw used to crochet, usually in the shape of a bunch of grapes, with the loveliest variegated purples and lavenders. I've been meaning to post about those useful old treasures for a while.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your comment on LAWN TEA. I hope you'll visit again.
rachel
Thanks for visiting me, Rachel. Looking forward to seeing the trivets.
DeleteI love your cute poem and beautiful blanket you crocheted! Hope you have a nice week!

I'm so happy the snail was able to get across the road without getting run over. As long as he doesn't come to my garden and eat, I'll be even more happy :-) Loved the poem and seeing your adorable nephew enjoying the beautiful throw and little animal you made!

ReplyDeleteOooo, I'm smitten with your gorgeous blanket. I used to love crocheting similar squares with the black frame around all the colours. But you have taken that pattern to a whole new delicious level.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed your poem too ... glad that little snail made it to the other side. And what a cutie pie nestled under that blanket.
Wishing you a beautiful weekend, Amalia!

The blanket is gorgeous! My grandmother crocheted the most amazing things, but I'm not very good at it.

ReplyDeleteHello Amalia, sorry I haven’t been around for a while. I love your blog, your poetry is divine and your gorgeous images always make me smile. The blanket is beautiful. Oh I do know that feeling when finishing a book, sometimes I delay finishing because I don’t want to leave the characters!
ReplyDeletePS. I'm just writing a review about a book I really didn't want to finish :-)
DeleteNow I'm curious. Heading over to discover which book it is :-)

ReplyDeleteHello Amalia, thank you for your nice visit today (Tue. April 26) - I thought I had left you a comment before here about your super cute nephew! You forgot to leave a photo link this week for Seasons - April poppies. You like to leave one of these photos in this post? Would be great! There's still time on Wednesday till 7pm Pacific time, to link up!
ReplyDeleteHope you're not embarrassed about your blackened out photo of last week. See, I live in the mountains and forest, and as soon as there's a storm coming up, it interferes with the internet. Even in normal conditions some cell phones do not even work here! (Nothing here is as stable or secure as in Holland, lol). So, it was not your fault!!
Actually this week it happened too, with someone else. At that time I couldn't even receive google or my blog!
This is beautiful Amalia! My Grandmother had one of these and I loved it! Thanks for sharing at Home Sweet Home!
ReplyDeleteHave a great week dear! xoxo
ReplyDeleteWell, Tomer makes a wonderful model showing off that stunning afghan! I have always loved granny squares...and the colors are just perfect! You do good work, girl :)
ReplyDeleteThe crocheted blanket is beautiful Amalia and your poem is very inspiring.

WHAT AN ADORABLE LITTLE POEM! I can see it in my head the whole while I was reading it! LOL TOO CUTE!!! ;) You REALLY NEED to publish your poems in a book! AND I AGREE with everyone else, your crocheted blanket is BEAUTIFUL! ;) THANK YOU for coming over to visit! BLESSINGS TO YOU & YOURS!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you dear Amalia for adding this darling image of your nephew sleeping underneath this beautiful blanket to SEASONS this week:):) Enjoy the rest of your week - am looking forward to to see your photo of the next!
ReplyDeleteSuch a bright & cheery blanket and a cute little model. - Darling little poem. I enjoy it very much.
ReplyDeleteIt is good to be able to carry our home with us, even if that means in our heart. The blanket is gorgeous! xoxo Su

Wow Amalia -- your blanket is gorgeous!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Amalia, LOVE the gorgeous granny square throw. This is stunning and so reminds me of the throws my grandmother and mother would make. Love the poem. What a sweet story. Your talents are incredible my friend. Blessings. xo
ReplyDeleteI was getting anxious for him!
ReplyDeleteLovely blankie :)
I love the crocheted blanket you've made! I love how the black makes all the colors pop! Well done!
ReplyDeleteI love your poem. Enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteI have a similar afghan from my MIL. Not sure if her mother made it or not. Hope you are sewing labels into your work. I guess your blog documents it. It is amazing how many questions you have when your relatives have died and there is no one to ask and you wish you knew.
I used to make my own embroidered labels. I can't remember why I stopped.
DeleteWonderful and creative, colorful too. Great and delightful read indeed. Greetings!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet snail poem Amalia, I was getting worried that he might not make it. Also love the afghan, the colors are beautiful.

ReplyDeleteAnd your newphew is so sweet!
have a nice day, dear Amalia!
Hi Amalua, gorgeous blanket! The poem is beautiful too. I habe been thinking in using one of your poems in class.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful blanket, those colours really pop against the black. And you had me on the edge of my seat with the snail!
ReplyDeleteApaixonei pelo trabalho, principalmente pelo uso do preto, que é tão difícil de se ver.
ReplyDeleteP "recheio", assim como as palavras, deixaram o post encantador.
Abraços e feliz dia.
