sat a doll and a bear,
the doll was quite cross
and she wanted to share:
"The children ignore us
and don't want to play,
I think that it's time
we went on our way."
The bear thought the doll
was ever so right -
little John never came now
to bid him goodnight!
They packed up a sandwich
and cake for the road,
and added some games
in case they got bored.
in case they got bored.
A bottle of water,
a hat and a sweater -
and off they went
to somewhere much better.
They got as far as
the house down the lane,
when all at once
it started to rain.
The bear thought perhaps
it was time to go home,
when all of a sudden
the rain turned to storm.
The doll felt chilly:
"well, there may be a fuss,
but John will be lonely
and sure to miss us."
They hurried back home
wet and bitterly cold,
all the while thinking
they were in for a scold.
Sound asleep in his bed
was that little boy John,
he'd never even noticed
that they had been gone.

Sometimes children can be so fickle, can't they. Your bear and dolly are so sweet. Love the stitching, Amalia and your lyrical poem brought a smile to my heart. So happy your bear and dolly are safe at home once again.
ReplyDeleteThe 'tragedy' of toys is that children will outgrow them :-)

Dear Amalia, your soft toys and story are equally beautiful. Your doll and bear show lovely stitching. Who knew a bear can be so elegant with a flower on its belly? And your poem captured my attention right to the last word.
ReplyDeleteAlso, you are lucky to have talented friends around you. :-)
Oh no! To run away and not be missed! The final indignity. LOL
ReplyDeleteThis is the coolest thing how Dana has set the stage with her drawings for Doll and Bear. They each are wonderful Amalia! You two make a great team!

The dolls are darling, the poem a bit bittersweet wasn't it?
ReplyDeleteYes, but children will outgrow their toys. I have a feeling that John will soon have a little sister who will love the bear and doll, and until then they have each other :-)

ReplyDeleteAnd your poem ist very good.
Have a nice evening, love from Nicole

ReplyDeleteWow love your doll and bear. Your poetry is amazing . I love you work. Have a lovely day
ReplyDeleteI like your two little friends and the poem.
ReplyDeleteQuestion: Did you embroider first or after you sewed the dolls together? I like how the edges of your dolls have an outline. Perhaps you did the outline last of all?
Thanks you for another lovely comment, Jody. I begin with the outline, then do the embroidery of the flowers and the sew the back and front together.
DeleteShame on John for not paying attention! Your two little friends are adorable, dear Amalia. You never cease to amaze me with your talent and creations.

Loved reading your poem and the drawings are so gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely week :)
Oh I just LOVED this poem...over the top cute to match your handwork :)
ReplyDeleteI love the poem...once had a similar experience with slipping my allowance money back into my father's wallet...he never knew a thing about it and never said, "Why, Vee, this is your money justly earned." Oh I showed him all right! LOL
ReplyDeleteLove, too, the collaborative efforts between your niece and yourself. They are charming beyond words.
What a darling child you must have been, Vee. I love this story!
DeleteJohn had been playing outside all the day,
ReplyDeleteOr else he'd have seen his friends slip away.
The doll and the bear knew they weren't being fair,
Sneaking off unannounced thinking John didn't care.
Even they know that little boys need to get some fresh air!
Oh, Wendy! This is wonderful! Thank you so very much! You comment left me with a big big smile.
DeleteSo cute! Your nieces paintings are the perfect compliment!

ReplyDeleteSuch a sad tale! The bear and doll are gorgeous. xx
ReplyDeleteI was focused on the idea of creating this big drama in your head while other people were totally unaware of it. I was a bit surprised to hear that other people saw it as sad but now that I see why, I'm going to write a follow-up story and put things right :-)
DeleteI love the colors on the bear and the doll and with the drawing it is amazing!

I'm afraid that it's a bit late for John, he's grown up and moved on. But there is a happy end coming!
