I love Scotland but I could never live there anymore than I could now live in the UK. Just too wet and cold for me, and last time I visited the midges eat me alive! Your photos though are stunning and I would live to visit again. Glad you had a great time. Take care and have a good day Diane

Believe it or not, that first photo looks like it was taken just a few miles from where I live in NE Oregon. I was so thrilled when we moved here and discovered the ranch where Highland cattle graze. Your photos are gorgeous, Amalia. You always choose pictures that give the beholder a true sense of the locale in all its many facets. I love your travel photos -- some of the best I've ever seen. Have a lovely weekend, my friend. Hugs.

After seeing your amazing photos, I think I must go to Scotland. I love your animal photos, in particular, and the amazing sweaters. The buildings are fabulous. Very old world. Several really captivate me -- the boat on the shore, those pastries, the interior of that house and those marvelous colored houses. How cheerful! Thanks for this -- I loved it!

How beautiful, Amalia! You've captured the wildness of the landscape, the storied history in the ruined castles, the handcrafts, the shops, and more. All delightful.

handmade by amalia said...

I thought so too :-)

handmade by amalia said...

Those midges were the one thing I didn't enjoy. They were everywhere.

handmade by amalia said...

The blue and whit X is the Scottish flag, also known as also known as St Andrew's Cross. We saw it everywhere.

handmade by amalia said...

I've never seen such lovely sweaters. They were pure wool and WAY to hot for our climate so I couldn't buy any.

handmade by amalia said...

Thanks for coming along, dear Gracie.

handmade by amalia said...

The views were spectacular, the lochs and rivers and sea were almost healing, but my very favorite part was the relaxed, friendly, trusting way most of the locals seemed to treat us. A real live-and-let-live atmosphere. It made me laugh because all around us were the remains of an extremely violent history, but they were just so laid back. I loved it.

handmade by amalia said...

Lavish praise indeed, my friend. Thank you!

handmade by amalia said...

One of the nicest places I've ever visited, I cannot recommend it enough. Perhaps not in winter though :-)

handmade by amalia said...

The weather was perfect. I didn't want it too sunny, plenty of that here, but not too cold and windy either. It was great, I wish I was back there right now. This is one hot summer we're having.

handmade by amalia said...

the Highlands and Skye - that is where I was and there were far fewer tourists and we'd expected.

handmade by amalia said...

How kind, Sheri. Scotland has a feel of old world England - Miss Marple territory - with majestic views. I love it.

handmade by amalia said...

Yes, I really should! Could you write a note for work? :-)

handmade by amalia said...

There was a guard in one of the castles. She was standing at her post crocheting granny squares. Every once a while she would go inside, chance yarns and look around to see that everyone was behaving. Then she went back outside to crochet in peace. I loved her.

handmade by amalia said...

That little store was magic. It was like the tardis - bigger on the inside - a maze of little rooms packed with treasures. I could have stayed for hours.

handmade by amalia said...

Old world sums it exactly. You are almost in Miss Marple territory but with grander views and no bodies. I loved it.

handmade by amalia said...

I am lucky. I know it.

Here is my Fairisle
https://eefalsebay.blogspot.co.za/2014/10/reach-for-recovery-breast-cancer.html

I used cashmere which is soft and light and warm not hot.
You could use bamboo or cotton? Doesn't have to be wool.

You have a way of capturing simple details that speak powerfully Amalia! I love the little glimpses into everyday life in Scotland. What beautiful images you have shared of the coastlines, the castle, the Highlander cow, and everything else! I've never been to Scotland, but truly feel as if I've been there with your powerful imagery :)

Gorgeous photos Amalia. The Western Highlands is where my ancestors were from, I always find myself drawn to the West Coast in a way I am not to the East though both are beautiful. Did you like both sides of the country or find one more appealing than the other? We are having a good summer this year. Hx

handmade by amalia said...

This is such a kind and lovely comment, thank you! I wish I was back there right now. We are having such a summer, hot and humid, not my kind of weather at all. Half the time I cannot be bothered to do anything excepts lists of all the thing I need/want to do :-)

handmade by amalia said...

I am definitely a west coast kind of gal. The wild sparse landscape speaks to me so.
