This week Orangette and Primrose are taking part
in the village fête. They've decided on a stall of baked goods and have been
baking furiously for days. Orangette is making her signature carrot cake
(you can't have too much orange, she always says) and Primrose is partial to
cupcakes and a nice sponge.
There's been a bit of a squabble about the decorations - Orangette likes balloons, Primrose wanted flowers, but finally it was agreed that you could not go wrong with an old-fashioned banner.
The fête itself went quite well. There was a moment when it looked like disaster may strike. Young Roger was chasing his brother dangerously close to the stall, but at the last moment the boys were distracted by a donkey race in the near field. And I'm pleased to report that the carrot cake was sold out, the sponge was popular and Mrs. Montague, the butcher's wife, said something rather kind about the cream-filled scones.
